Wenn du einen Christen aus Thessalonich gefragt hättest, worauf er wartet, was hätte er geantwortet? Hätte er gesagt: „Meine Erwartung ist, die Welt durch das Evangelium zu verbessern“? Oder: „Ich erwarte den Tod, um ... mehrzu Jesus zu gehen“? Nein, er hätte geantwortet: „Ich warte auf den Sohn Gottes aus den Himmeln.“

Paulus beginnt seine Ermahnungen mit den Worten: „Im Übrigen nun, Brüder, bitten und ermahnen wir euch in dem Herrn Jesus.“ Seine Ermahnungen haben also mit dem Anerkennen der Herrschaft Christi im Leben der Gläubigen zu ... mehrtun, das heißt, sie sollen seine Autorität als Herr in ihrem Leben anerkennen. Die Thessalonicher hatten diese praktischen Ermahnungen bereits „empfangen“, als Paulus bei ihnen war, aber er hielt es für notwendig, sie erneut zu betonen.
