Pavel numește trei însușiri ale unei văduve, care este „cu adevărat văduvă”: ea este „singură”, ea „și-a pus speranța în Dumnezeu”, și ea „stăruie noapte și zi în cereri și ... mehrrugăciuni” (1 Timotei 5.5). O văduvă, care este „cu adevărat văduvă”, va prezenta, prin urmare, aceste însușiri înaintea lui Dumnezeu. În mod remarcabil, în Evanghelia după Luca găsim trei văduve, la care se întâlnesc aceste descrieri.
