Der Platz der Bundeslade war im Innersten des Heiligtums. Sie war ein Kasten oder eine Truhe aus Akazienholz. Von innen wie von außen war sie mit Gold überzogen, so dass nichts als Gold zu sehen war. Oben auf der Lade lag ein Deckel aus ... morereinem Gold, an dessen beiden Enden aus demselben Stück Gold je ein Cherub getrieben war. Er wurde Sühndeckel genannt. In die Lade wurde das „Zeugnis“ gelegt, die zwei Tafeln des Gesetzes. Außerdem war darin der goldene Krug, der das Manna enthielt, und der Stab Aarons, der gesprosst hatte.
